THE DOUBLE LIFE OF ARCHITECTURE.

Realised alongside artist Ektor Ntourakos.

Welcome to this three-part video series on the power of architecture and how it shapes our world, explored via space in Amsterdam. The first video is: on Zeeburgereiland, René Boer and collaborators explore “commoning” in public spaces, using art and design to foster community-driven social action and shared spaces. In the second video: we visit Nieuwmarkt, a historic square in Amsterdam's Chinatown and Red Light District. Historian Tim Verlaan shares how its evolution—from medieval gate to WWII collection point to the 1970s protest site—reflects Amsterdam’s changing cityscape. And in the third and final video: at the former Bijlmer Bajes, now the Healthy Urban Living Lab, Harko van den Hende and his team collaborate with future residents to create spaces promoting exercise, connection, and healthy living. Research and experiments shape this neighborhood from the ground up.
