POLAROID

POLAROID 101: WHERE DARK PICTURES COME TO DIE.

My Job: Concept, Scripts, Song Writing, Puppet Master
Director: Tom Rijpert
2024

My first work as copywriter at Polaroid's HQ here in Amsterdam, finally earning the title I’ve been after all along: Puppet Master. Non-stop laughter from start to finish. We were tasked with making an educational video for cameras so simple we couldn’t help but make a pisstake on a kids show for adults. Where Fred (a puppet version of Polaroid's real Customer Service Manager, Frédéric Vinolas) lets out all his frustrations. So, if you're into terrible French accents, lack Polaroid photography skills, and laugh at all the wrong moments, you're in for a real treat. Get lost in the fuzzy, touchy, intense world of Polaroid 101 in my book.

wow such cool lyrics.

INSIGHT

A ridiculous number of people with Polaroid cameras never buy film (80%). Our strategists told us it’s because people don’t know shit about taking analogue pictures anymore. And when their expensive pictures turn out crap they blame it on us. A classic case of smarter phones, dumber people.

IDEA

We needed to teach people how to use a one-button, point-and-shoot, pick-up-and-play camera. A camera so simple I’m sure we could teach a dog how to use it. (That was one of our other ideas - Introducing Pawlaroid). So we thought, let’s take the piss and create a kids show for adults.
